The American Center Vientiane, located in downtown Vientiane, provides Lao youth and emerging leaders a safe space for learning, exploring, conversation, and discovery. Its activities focus on educational themes ranging from English language classes, library exhibits, discussion forums, workshops, and civic education training.
All of ACT’s classes, events and programs are FREE and open to the public.
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Courses
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a structured, five-week term ESL course that allows them to develop their English language competencies in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The students will benefit from small class sizes and classroom instruction that focuses on a student-centered approach to maximize engagement and learning. The curriculum includes project based learning as practical approaches to developing students’ confidence and competencies in everyday communication and academic settings.
Special Interest Classes (SIC)
Special interest classes are an integral part of the English language program at ACT. These courses lasting 3 weeks and are designed to improve specific English skill sets for academic and professional purposes through content-based instruction. General classes are single session classes with new topics for discussion each day. Students can register once a month for classes based on their English level. Socials are interactive classes that provide insight into American life, values and culture. Students can also register for socials. For more information, please follow our Facebook page.
ACT hosts regular special events, skills enhancement workshops, and educational events on a variety of topics ranging from American culture to entrepreneurship and environmental issues. To see this month’s schedule, please follow our Facebook page.
Books and DVDs
Our Center includes a library with a wide variety of DVDs and books available for check-out: from American history and literature to business and international affairs to study materials for tests such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE).
Registered members can borrow DVDs and books for up to two weeks at a time. To register fill out the Membership form.
Periodicals and Journals
Visitors can peruse the Center’s periodicals, journals, and magazine and newspaper subscriptions.
We also have computers and internet for public use.
Students interested in studying in the United States can browse our Education resources and speak to our full time on-site EducationUSA advisor.
The Center contains dozen of books and resource materials to help you find information on courses offered in American Universities and Colleges, scholarships and life in the United States.
