There are no U.S. government restrictions on doing business with Laos.  In 2009, President Obama determined that Laos should no longer be considered a “Marxist-Leninist” country as determined by the 1945 Export-Import Act, due to its commitment to more open markets.  American companies are now also free to apply for trade financing through the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
